Jackson Fire Department – A Tour

Jackson Fire DepartmentToday we had the privilege of getting a tour of the Jackson Fire Department – and we had a blast! It was such an experience, watching my husband and daughter (okay, and me too) wide-eyed and in awe of the big shiny trucks, loads of equipment, buttons and levers and sirens and horns.

We got to see where the Firemen eat and congregate; we talked to a few of them and even bought a couple of sweatshirts for breast cancer awareness month. This speaks volumes because even though they are busy fighting fires, helping those who may be injured or in need of help, and performing the myriad of other duties that keep our community safe and comfortable, they also work hard for worthy charitable causes.

Let me tell you, those guys down there work diligently and loyally, and they are the nicest people you’d ever want to meet. If my family was in harm’s way I’d want them there.

As we were walking around, I was struck by how humble the guys there were, and how very taken for granted our fire department is. We trust these men, many with wives and children, will put their lives on the line to save ours in the most terrible and tragic situations. Their gear is torn and worn, they are doing the very best with what they have, and they are every bit the hero’s of this community.

There is such a sense of pride in the firehouse – pride in their job, and in this community. It’s the type of pride I wish resonated with more people in this town. Jackson is a great town, if we all had the attitude, commitment, and wherewithal that our local firefighters have then we could be even greater.

I highly encourage a trip and a tour of the Jackson Fire Department – my family had a great time and I know yours will as well!
